SUMMARY:Art for Lunch: Dr. Marsha Penner and Dr. Michelle Robinson
DESCRIPTION:Art for Lunch 18 April 2019 | 12:30 PM \nJoin Dr. Marsha Penner and Dr. Michelle Robinson for a discussion of how they’re using the Ackland to learn about cognitive and literary approaches to problem solving as part of their jointly-taught course on detective fiction\, “Methods of Detection.” \nNot only do paperbacks like Gone Girl and television mega-franchises like Law & Order invite their audiences to perform extraordinary feats of detection\, they also communicate information about the cognitive processes that make mystery-solving possible. Both literary theorists and behavioral neuroscientists have developed models that explain the ways detection—the accumulation and logical assembly of clues and evidence to solve mysteries—takes place. \nThis Art for Lunch will include an activity involving four objects from the Ackland’s permanent collection\, including the one in the image above. Image credit: Unidentified Artist\, Indian/Swiss\, Watch and Compass\, brass\, enamel\, silver overlay\, and glass. 2 11/16 x 1 7/8 in. Ackland Fund\, selected by The Ackland Associates. 96.3.2. \nLUNCH\nBring your own bag lunch. \nCOST\nFree \nRSVP\nPlease RSVP using the form below to save your spot at this popular lunchtime program!\nOops!
