SUMMARY:Drawing in the Galleries
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our popular Drawing in the Galleries program this month during Studio Saturday! Amanda Hughes leads participants in a creative exploration of a particular object in the Ackland’s collection. Participants all draw from one object using their own gallery-safe materials (paper/notebooks and dry media like crayons and pencils)\, then discuss what they’ve noticed through the process of drawing. All levels are welcome.

DESCRIPTION:Spend a summer evening making art at the Ackland’s 2nd Friday ArtWalk: Twilights on the Terrace. \nDrop in to create pen and watercolor paintings inspired by Charlotte-based artist Georgie Nakima\, whose installation Pantheress is on view through July 21 in the Ackland’s ART& space. This event is free\, all ages\, and all materials will be provided. NOTE: Due to unforeseen circumstances\, Georgie will no longer be able to attend the event. \nThroughout the evening\, Thirsty Skull Brewing (Siler City and Pittsboro\, NC) will sell their local craft beer and a selection of snacks. The Museum galleries will remain open until 9 p.m. \nThis event is part of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro 2nd Friday ArtWalk.

SUMMARY:Curator's Tour of "Arranged"
DESCRIPTION:This program is now FULL. To be added to our WAITLIST\, please email acklandRSVP@unc.edu. \nJoin Peter Nisbet\, Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs\, for a guided look at Arranged: Recent Acquisitions of Modern and Contemporary Paintings. Taking its title from a newly acquired work by Peter Halley\, Arranged brings together a varied selection of over thirty recent acquisitions of modern and contemporary paintings by twenty-two artists. Highlights of the exhibition will include works by UNC-Chapel Hill alums Frank Faulkner\, Herb Jackson (with two paintings each)\, and Mark Brown; a powerful group of Color Field works by Jules Olitski and other painters of his generation such as Stanley Boxer\, Jack Bush\, and Friedel Dzubas; and individual paintings by Greg Drasler\, Jeff Elrod\, Shanequa Gay\, John Gibson\, Peter Halley\, Reggie Burrows Hodges\, Val Lewton\, Allan McCollum\, Beverly McIver\, and Philip Taaffe. The Ackland has also collected internationally\, and Arranged presents works by Etel Adnan (Lebanon)\, Esther Mahlangu (South Africa)\, Pinaree Sanpitak (Thailand)\, Aníbal Villacis (Ecuador)\, and John Walker (Great Britain).
