SUMMARY:Art and Literature: "Soft Night\, Watching" and "The Colour out of Space"
DESCRIPTION:Join Lauren Turner (associate curator for contemporary art and special projects)\, artist Jen Clay\, and Ben Bolling (teaching assistant professor of English and Comparative Literature) for a special viewing and discussion at the Ackland Art Museum. Explore the interactive\, quilted installation Soft Night\, Watching\, currently on view\, along with the H.P. Lovecraft story that helped inspire it. \nThe Ackland is thrilled to partner with Carolina Public Humanities on a program with UNC-Chapel Hill scholars and the artist in conversation about the artwork\, the broad themes it addresses\, and the literary worlds it reflects upon. Participants will receive a copy of the story in advance and enjoy light refreshments during the program. \nSpace is limited; tickets are required. SUMMARY:Stuff Your Fears with Artist Jen Clay
DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the themes in her installation Soft Night\, Watching\, artist Jen Clay is hosting a drop-in activity to create stuffie versions of your fears and anxieties. The Ackland will provide supplies to decorate your own stuffie. Clay will be available to answer questions about how she uses soft textures and also encourages touch in her artworks to soothe dreads and worries about the world. \nParticipation is free and at your pace\, but RSVPs are encouraged to guarantee a stuffie is available for your use. Please register below for your free individual ticket. Otherwise\, they will be available first come\, first served.
